Jonathan Kott is a Democratic strategist, campaign veteran, and the only person to serve as communications director for two senators simultaneously. He has served in various roles within the Beltway for over 20 years, focusing on communications, policy, and politics. Kott served as communications director and senior advisor to Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) for seven years and continues to work for him, having just helped Manchin with the launch of his NYT best-selling book. Kott helped the Senator navigate the Manchin-Toomey bill, attempts to repeal the ACA, the bipartisan immigration reform, his 2018 re-election, the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, and his presidential listening tour. Kott also served simultaneously as communications director for Senators Manchin and Chris Coons (D-DE) in 2016, returning as a senior advisor to Senator Coons in 2020. There, he helped the Senator in his role as a lead surrogate for the Biden campaign, through multiple COVID-19 relief packages, and the second impeachment.
Along with his time on the Hill, Kott has represented Fortune 100 companies as a lobbyist at Capitol Counsel and as a crisis communications expert at Burson-Marsteller and helped craft moderate messaging and policy at Third Way. Jonathan began his career as an intern for Senator Schumer and Governor Cuomo in New York City.
