Her experience spans executive leadership in high-growth technology, senior roles shaping U.S. foreign policy, and service at the highest levels of government in both the White House and the U.S. legislative branch. Mary Elizabeth led five corporate affairs functions as Robinhood’s Vice President, Global Head of Government and External Affairs. She designed and executed the global affairs strategy that supported the company’s first international expansion into the UK and EU, directly engaging senior policymakers, regulators, and heads of state to secure the relationships and approvals essential for successful market entry.
Mary Elizabeth was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the 32nd Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs - becoming the youngest person and first African American to ever serve in the role. Reporting directly to the Secretary of State, she served as the U.S. State Department’s lead interlocutor with Congress, leading a team of 60 to advance U.S. foreign policy priorities amid heightened geopolitical complexity. In the White House, Mary Elizabeth served as a Special Assistant to the President of the United States, advising the President and his team on all Senate confirmations, including Cabinet secretaries, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, and Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell. Her career was shaped on the U.S. Senate floor, where she served in Senate Leadership staff for Republican Leader McConnell (R-KY), and offered strategic parliamentary guidance directly to U.S. Republican Senators and senior staff navigating high-stakes policy decisions.
Recognized on Forbes 30 Under 30, and named one of Business Insider’s “Most Influential Young Women in American Politics,” Mary Elizabeth also invests deeply in leadership development and public service. She has served as a fellow at Harvard, Stanford, and Georgetown Universities, teaching and mentoring emerging leaders at the nexus of policy and innovation. She also contributes her expertise through board service, including with the British American Business Association and the Women’s Democracy Network, engaging cross-sector partners to strengthen global cooperation and economic engagement.
